Labor MP Marcouch wants to fight anti-semitism.
AMSTERDAM - MP Ahmed Marcouch wants to create better circumstances for the police, to arrest perpetrators of anti-semitism. The former Mayor of Amsterdam-Slotervaart is determined to fight anti-semitism. This is his response to the news that Jews in some parts of Amsterdam are afraid to wear their yarmulke. "I don't care how we do it, but we have to arrest and punish the perpetrators of anti-semitic violence, at any cost", Marcouch stated. "It seems as if we are dealing with small incidents, but this is very serious".
In Amsterdam-West, there is an undercover synagogue, without visible Jewish characteristics. The visitors can't be recognized as being Jewish either. Jews in this district allegedly are being threatened by Moroccan youth on a regular basis.
Marcouch will be sworn-in as an MP on Thursday this week. At the municipal elections last March, he received a large number of preferential votes - despite his low position on Labor's list - which resulted in a seat in the City Council. (NOVUM)
